Horizon Forbidden West is again a lot more vertical than its predecessor and regularly lets Aloy scramble up mountain walls to reach quest goals or collect resources. This is actually a fun feature, at least when it works properly. Often, however, I just spam the focus button to see where it goes on, or curses Aloy when she confidently swings to the left, even though I have actually pushed up and is clearly a climbing marker.
The simple solution for me is to leave the climbing markings left and instead Aloy jump against rock walls like a horse from Skyrim until it arrives at some point.
Bergziege Aloy or nothing
Admittedly, I am also to blame for a little bit of my problem myself. Because there are often ways that Aloy can run along to save at least part of the climbing section. But if I see in many situations what detour I would have to take to get to the paths or to avoid mountains completely, the despite. Then I want to have the shortest way and it is the crow flies.
Everything that then stands in my way of stone and rock must be conquered, regardless of whether Aloy should actually be able to climb long or not. And because I like to be annoyed by the climbing mechanics, I just try to avoid them as far as possible. Instead, I am looking for hillpieces on my way, which I can only conquer with my X-button. Instead of beating myself with climbing markings, I prefer to jump against a rock in a slightly changed angle until I made it up.

I would never say that I always make the smartest decisions in video games. Once I have committed myself to a supposed path to the goal, I also stay with it, come. Hopefully this will be better at least in Horizon if I can finally fly at the end of the story.
And that usually works surprisingly well. Not only is it easier than against Aloy's sake to climb in every direction except for the one I wanted - sometimes I can even deal with obstacles that should actually hinder my progress. Oh, a metal flower blocks my way? No problem, I jump over:

too stubborn to run around it
Of course, this method does not always work, some slopes are simply too steep than that Aloy could jump up on them. And similar to the horses in Skyrim, I have to be honest with myself every now and then and admit that I might have been faster if I had bitten into the sour apple and followed a climbing path.
This may have solved a little wiser, who, like me, hate the search for climbing markings, but simply turned on the climbing aid in the settings and makes life easier. Definitely easier than me, which is mainly driven by despite:

Horizon Forbidden West - Thank good god, I switched on the climbing aid

I like to frustrate myself, but every now and then the game unintentionally rewarded me with a sense of achievement when I then manage to avoid an obstacle or to come to the summit of the mountain without climbing. And all frustration is forgotten. I just don't learn either.
What does it look like with you, do you stick to the given paths and markings in Horizon Forbidden West, or do you want to go through the (rock) wall with my head?
