Intel puts the heat at Consumer Electronics Show this year with the announcement of its 12th generation Core processors. The range includes dozens of new references for mobile games and office productivity. At least on paper, the specifications are quite impressive.
They may not be as catchy or sexy as the next successful game, but the processors are probably more important. Everyone is not a player, but we all use a computer. We want our machines to be ultra-fast, powerful, flexible and affordable. Players are turning to high-end graphics cards for the last bells and whistles. Musicians, artists and video editing (to name a few) depend on the processor. For these people, better and faster fleas are big news. Even for daily tasks, the better the processor, the more fluid.
The most exciting new range is perhaps that of Series H processors for laptops. The top of the range H is the I9 12900HK, a 14-core beast that Intel calls the fastest mobile processor in the world. It has 6 powerful cores and 8 effective cores with a 24 MB cache at the bottom of the H series ladder is the I5 12500H. It is a 12-core processor, with 4 efficient hearts and 8 cores effective. All processors of the H series have a basic power of 45 watts.
According to the specifications, it seems that the series H is a winner. Associated with an RTX 3080, the I9 12900HK offers speeds 28% faster (at 1080p) with games like Hitman 3 and League of Legends. Thanks to its 6th embedded Wi-Fi, its performance as an online game platform are also promising. It cleans the ground with AMD processors like Ry zen 9 5900 and extends Intel's own Core i9 11980 HK.
Many of us use our laptops for content creation. It is interesting to note that Core I9 12900HK is 44% faster than Core I9 11980 in Adobe Premiere and 10% faster in Lightroom. For those who use Blender, you can expect a rendering time up to 30% faster.
Finally, the H series supports Thunderbolt 4 and DDR5-4800, DDR4-3200, DPDDR5-5200 memory cards. The other Intel mobile processors include the 28-watt series P series and the 15/9 watts U series.
With regard to desktop applications, the 12th generation Intel Core processors also offer increased performance. Let's start with the game. The improvements of Core I9 12900 range from a modest increase of 9% FPS in Age of Empires 4 to an impressive 20% increase in the demanding driving simulation Grid 2019. The high-end Core I9 12900 is A 16-core processor of 65 watts that supports up to 128 GB of DDR5 memory.
Content creators can also expect wholesale performance gains. According to Intel, Core I9 12900 is really 55% better in Adobe Premiere Pro than with the eldest Core i9 11900, and an increase of 39% of performance in Lightroom.
Intel's third EVE edition is a set of performance specifications that have been adopted by a wide range of computers. To meet the 3rd generation EVE specification, computers must meet a specific standard that includes the 6th Wi-Fi. Also included in the specifications an FHD camera, a noise reduction and a 12th generation Intel processor. The EVE brand is a clear recognition of the importance of teleinformatics, Zoom meetings and ease of use. Parallel to the EVE, Intel specifications also presents PRO. PRO includes and extends EVE specifications for machines designed for business applications, Chromebooks and workstations.
Finally, Intel has announced new specifications for folding screens. These meet the EVE specifications and should appear in the devices in 2022.
Although we have not put in hand on any 12th generation device to the CES, it is clear that the company has been busy. The processing power is extremely important on a wide range of devices. Of course, with supply chain problems, we do not know when we will see the new processors in the machines. For mobile players and experienced users, in particular, the 12th generation Core processors are exciting news.
